“Convictus Ukraine” presented the experience of social support for patients in the treatment of hepatitis C
Today, the Public Health Alliance holds the final meeting of partners. At the event, the Alliance presents the results of the project “Expanding Access to Effective Hepatitis C Treatment through Community-Based Treatment Models for Key Populations in Ukraine’s Limited Resources”.
Key partners include the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Centre for Public Health of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine, the World Health Organization, the US Centers for Disease Control, the Global Fund, Yale University, leading infectious disease specialists and representatives of nongovernmental organizations:
– For the first time, innovative drugs of direct antiviral action became available and their cost was reduced tenfold;
– For the first time, the treatment of viral hepatitis C became available to participants in the ATO and in prisons;
– For the first time, an incredible cure rate of 95% was achieved.
Thanks to the efforts of the Alliance of Public Health and the work of partners in the regions, 98% of patients completed the full course of treatment.
“Convictus Ukraine” during 2016-2017, carried out social support for patients in the framework of the program of treatment of hepatitis C in the city of Kiev and Kiev region. In cooperation with four medical institutions, the Kiev Regional Centre for HIV / AIDS Prevention, Kiev City Center for AIDS Prevention and Control, Kiev City Drug Treatment Clinic “Sociotherapy” and the Main Military Clinical Hospital covered 204 people. 98% of patients successfully completed treatment. At the meeting, Yevgeniia Kuvshinova, executive director of Convictus, spoke about the complexity of maintenance and main successes.
We hope for the further deployment of such programs since Ukraine still does not have full access to the diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis C.
