Kyiv hosted a conference for health workers “Trans* competent health care: existing and innovative approaches in service delivery to trans* people.”

Cohort NGO and Convictus Ukraine brought together 30 specialists working in various areas to create a trans* inclusive environment.

“Education and elimination of barriers in access to health services are important tasks of the trans* community. Back in 2021, motivation and education of doctors were defined as one of the key areas of our advocacy plan. Health workers (family doctors, endocrinologists, psychiatrists, surgeons, sexologists, urologists, gynecologists) are those who play a key role in the gender transitioning process,” said Anastasia Eva Domani, Director of the Trans* Map project.

Topics discussed at the conference:

– Experience of providing medical services to trans* people;

– Experience of trans* people receiving medical care;

–  International Classification of Diseases ICD-10 versus ICD-11; Depathologization of gender incongruence.

– Unified Clinical Guidelines of Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Health Care “Gender Dysphoria”;

– WPATH Standards of Care for the Health of Transgender and Gender Diverse People (8th version);

– Endocrinology Guidelines: Ukraine and the world. Transgender hormone therapy as humanitarian aid with support of the Global Fund.

– Tolerance when providing medical care to trans* people.

Cohort NGO and Convictus Ukraine would like to thank the WHO, Public Health Center, Alliance for Public Health, ECOM, and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for supporting the conference.

The next conference will be held in Lviv on March 31, 2023.
